About Holly
Places inspire Holly's printmaking. She focuses on spaces she feels particularly connected to in Aotearoa/New Zealand, her home. The native beech forests in Te Waipounamu/South Island) are often repeated throughout her work, where she resides with her family in Ĺtautahi/Christchurch.
"These pieces reflect my deep respect for the fragility and beauty of all native forests. Through this work, I want to communicate the importance of handing this precious heritage on to future generations."
She primarily carves her prints into woodblocks, using a fine dremel drill for the smaller details. A different block is created for each colour set, which she then aligns and hand prints, making the beautiful and unique final image.
Holly's work ultimately reminds us to take a breath and recognise what we might otherwise miss. Her final prints imbue the viewer with a powerful sense of calm, which helps highlight the natural beauty and majesty of the environment.
By finding the balance between gentleness and strength, Holly's work revitalises this otherwise very traditional medium and brings it into the present day.
